Modi supporters are discussing questions in private. They are afraid to ask these questions in public. Why? Because discussing them in public would be admitting that they have been fooled. So they discuss these questions in private, hoping that they are mistaken. Questions like these:
1. Why has Modi deserted his biggest allies and instead put his biggest enemies in high places?
2. Is it a Modi government or is it a Jaitley government?
3. Why has Modi made a U-turn like Kejri?
4. Is Modi romantically involved with Smriti Irani?
5. Does Sonia Gandhi have a file on Modi? (Related question: Does Sonia Gandhi have a file on Jaitley?)
6. Does Jaitley know something about Modi and is blackmailing him into following his orders?
7. Is Jaitley running the government (like Sonia did) and Modi is just the new “Manmohan”?
Everyone knows that Jaitley was the leader of the “180 Club.” What was that? A group that wanted the BJP to get only around 180 LS seats, not more, so that Modi would not be the PM. The leaders of the 180-Club were Sushma Swaraj, Jaitley and Advani. Jaitley lost the elections. But he got the two most important portfolios: finance and defense.
So Modi rewarded his biggest enemies within the BJP. Outside the BJP, his biggest enemy was Sonia Gandhi. She was rewarded with a seat at the head table when Obama visited India. She called him “maut ka saudagar” – Merchant of Death. Modi rewarded her.
Modi neglected his friends and ignored talented people: Arun Shourie. Jethmalani, Subramaniam Swamy — just to name a few. And dozens of absolutely patriotic, high net worth people who gave time, energy and money. These names are in the public domain and the insiders know who they are. Modi neglected to thank them even.
Modi and his coterie are molly-coddling the worst main stream media people like Sardesai, Barkha and Ghosh. The first interview to a foreign journalist was Zakaria, a man renowned for his hatred of Modi. Journalists who supported Modi are not given anything. Want to get on Modi’s good books? Abuse him relentlessly in foreign media.
It seems that if you were a Modi enemy, you are just fine but if you were a Modi supporter, you are shit out of luck. The disappointment is very painful. Modi supporters in India and abroad as asking, “What happened? What changed?”
Jaitley is a Lutyens Delhi insider. He knows everyone worth knowing — meaning the rich, powerful and corrupt. Jaitley is a close associate of Sonia Gandhi. People have reported that Jaitley struck a deal with Sonia Gandhi before the elections. The deal? That Jaitley will make sure that Sonia Gandhi and her family will be protected against any investigation. It is possible that Sonia has a file on Jaitley and therefore has control over him. Jaitley has something on Modi. Therefore, Sonia controls Jaitley and Modi. That is why Modi has not gone after the super crook Vadra. As they say in Hindi, “sab miley juley hain” — they are all in it together.
Jaitley is really not a BJP person. He is a double-agent. He works for Sonia. Remember that Brijesh Mishra was with Vajpayee but he was working for Sonia. Like Mishra, Jaitley is on her payroll. Jaitley is a close friend of P Chidambaram. Jaitley has represented PC in court cases. Jaitley is hated more than PC. As @IndiaSpeaksPR wrote on twitter: “Arun Jaitley is achieving the impossible. In less than a yr, people have started calling him worse than Chidambaram.”
Modi should read the speeches he made before the elections to understand that he has not delivered on what he promised. He said, “government has no business to be in business.” Now he is expanding government. He is getting the government more into business. He is raising taxes — and wasting those taxes. Modi’s policies are no different from the hated policies of UPA. He has also taken the socialist road. That led to India’s poverty. Modi was expected to be different. But he turned out to be more of the same.
Modi makes pretty speeches but that does not alter the ugly reality. He has been jetting around the world and become the “NRI PM” — a “non-resident” PM. Modi said that he will get back black money. Nothing has happened. The biggest crooks are still walking around safe. Big crooks like Vadra. And Sonia. He even said that he takes advice from Sharad Pawar, a man who is perhaps in the top 5 corrupt politicians and perhaps in the top 5 richest Indians.
Modi said that he will make changes in the way Delhi works, that he will fight the establishment. Now he has become part of the establishment. Modi didn’t change Delhi. Delhi changed Modi.
Why was Irani given an important portfolio like HRD, which includes policy about education? She has no understanding of education, having very little to do with education herself. In a country of thousands of highly qualified people who know a lot about education, why did Modi give her the job? Is it a sweetheart deal?
Investors are losing faith
Recently a foreign fund manager Jim Rogers wrote “So far, the Modi government has done nothing but talk” in a column in LiveMint. He said that he will leave the positions he took right around the election results but now is thinking of getting out. Because of Modi’s lack of performance, India will lose. With the loss of confidence in the Indian economy, investment will flee India. The finance minister Jaitley knows nothing about the economy. He’s just a lawyer experienced in representing crooks. Indians will suffer but it will not make a difference to Jaitley and his cronies.
Lurching from Disaster to Disaster
Nehru was a disaster. Then came Indira. More nationalization and therefore more under-performing economy. Then came Rajiv. People had great faith in him. But he was a trained pilot, not a leader of a large nation. Predictably that ended in a disaster. Narasimha Rao was forced to liberalize the economy under external pressure. Later, Atal Bihar Vajpayee did a little bit but that too ended soon enough, thanks to Advani. UPA was the biggest disaster so far. Manmohan Singh was a great politician but a bad economist. Anyway, he was just a watchman keeping the seat warm for Rahul. Rahul turned out to be a wet rag — limp and worthless. Modi is poised to make Manmohan Singh look good by comparison.
Modi was the great promise. And he is turning out to be the biggest disappointment because the people had the greatest expectations from him. He was expected to rescue India from its enemies. It appears that he has joined the ranks of India’s enemies. India’s fate is uncertain and very, very sad.
Modi has failed so far. Chances are that he will be the biggest failure that India has had the misfortune to have as a PM. Worse than Nehru, Indira, Rajiv, Manmohan? Yes, because the expectations are higher in Modi’s term, and the opportunity that Modi has is much greater. Modi is throwing away a golden opportunity that a country gets only once a 1000 years. If he fails India, he will be remembered by history as the greatest failure.
His performance before the general elections earned him the delighted admiration of his supporters and stunned his enemies into defeat. The reaction to his performance as the PM has been divided. His supporters have become disillusioned and disappointed. His enemies are delighted. They know that the Modi magic is over. It was just a show and that show is fast coming to a close. They know that they will be back in control in 2019. Modi is a pheku, a one-trick pony. India’s enemies will have the last laugh.
The Modi Raj began with a bang. It will end in a whimper.
Recommended hastag #GreatModiDisaster. Please spread it around on social media, especially on twitter. Modi cares about social media. He may take notice if enough people agree with the sentiments of this commentator. Who am I? I care about India. India has to move ahead. If Modi cannot do it, replace him. I have no connections (even indirectly) to any of the principal players in this Indian tragedy:
Arun Jaitley, the Mole. Starring.
Sonia Gandhi, the Corrupt. Foreign agent.
Rahul Gandhi, the Idiot. An uneducated retard.
Narendra Modi, the Inept. (Note that he comes below Rahul Gandhi in the billing.)
Sushma Swaraj, the Secret Friend of the Corrupt. Fat.
Lal Kishan Advani, the Ambitious. Dementia is hard on anyone. Minor character.
